domestic lives

A 40 page catalogue of this exhibition at Manly Art Gallery is now available here for purchase.

"The placement favoured by O’Doherty in many of the paintings in Domestic Lives is reminiscent of pattern making, where disconnected fragments of domestic processes float on indeterminate grounds. These fragments offer multiple interpretations. For the artist, the series is a form of interrogation of her mother’s process and by association, all suffocating domestic environments. The placement of elements suggests constriction and control, while the associative qualities of the colour and the selection of motifs convey the intense emotional register. This reshaping of data is a reconciling process, however, reconfiguring domesticity in an independent aesthetic dimension."
