I constructed small assemblages in 2014 while on ‘Oz to Waiheke’, a 2-week Waiheke Community Art Gallery Artist in Residence Programme on Waiheke Island along with a group of Australian and New Zealand artists. As we travelled around I collected a variety of found and discarded wood pieces on walks over beaches and by the roadside. I sawed, shaped, sanded, assembled and painted each work responding to the landscape, its contours, topography, the light and the sea surrounding the island.
The exhibition features works by Joe Frost, Clive Humphreys, Lonnie Hutchinson, Richard Killeen, Euan McLeod, Denis O’Conner, Susan O’Doherty, Jeff Thomson, Fiona Pardington, Billy Apple and Mark Surridge.
